Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Specialty Doctor in Stroke Medicine to join our team at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Main Responsibilities
  • Maintain the highest clinical standards in Stroke services, with a focus on HASU, ASU, and TIA clinics.
  • Participate in weekly Stroke MDT meetings and contribute to the development of clinical protocols.
  • Examine, investigate, and treat patients attending the Department, with a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
  • Supervise junior doctors and specialist nurses, providing guidance and support to ensure the delivery of excellent patient care.
  • Participate in internal education activities, including teaching nurses, medical students, and junior doctors, to promote knowledge sharing and skill development.
  • Contribute to external educational activities, such as meetings and courses, to enhance professional development and stay up-to-date with best practices.
  • Engage in research, audit, and clinical governance activities to drive quality improvement and patient safety.
  • Provide medical support to non-medical staff, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Perform administrative tasks relevant to Stroke, including writing letters to colleagues and patients, compiling data, and developing clinic protocols.
  • Clinical liaison with other hospital departments, general practitioners, and external agencies to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Work flexibly with colleagues to achieve hospital-agreed planned activity for inpatient and outpatient services.

Person Specification

Audit and Research

  • Knowledge of audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects, with implementation of outcomes.

Qualifications

  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council at time of appointment and continued licensure to practice.
  • MBchB/MBBS or equivalent.
  • Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training in a relevant specialty or equivalent experience and competencies.

Experience and Achievements

  • Demonstrated clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Stroke Medicine.
  • Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the role.
  • Capacity to work with and lead others across professions.

Teaching and Training

  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.

Practical/Intellectual Skills/Personal Qualities

  • Ability to use IT systems, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Evidence of innovation and continuous learning and development.
