Job Title: Head of Mechanical & Piping

On Line Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Mechanical & Piping to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for leading the mechanical and piping team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality projects on time and within budget.


Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement effective strategies for sourcing and executing work for the mechanical and piping department.
  2. Manage the bidding process, including the completion of tenders and the creation of cost estimates.
  3. Monitor staff requirements and make recommendations for recruitment, mentoring, and training.
  4. Attract and retain top talent through effective recruitment and retention strategies.
  5. Monitor progress of jobs within the department, ensuring they meet quality, timescale, and budget requirements.
  6. Monitor the performance of all personnel within the department to ensure quality of work product and continuity of design methods.
  7. Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and competencies of department personnel.
  8. Initiate, review, and approve routine performance appraisals.
  9. Demonstrate a customer-focused approach in all interactions.
  10. Provide technical expertise, setting design specifications on projects and driving technical assurance and safety by design.
  11. Ensure compliance with On Line Group Engineering procedures, specifications, standards, technical guidance, and work instructions.
  12. Review and approve timesheets, holidays, and expenses for departmental personnel.
  13. Collaborate with other departments, including fabrication and operations teams.
  14. Undertake inspection reports and constructability reviews to ensure safe and efficient designs.
  15. Act as the client's engineer and technical authority.
  16. Provide technical support to the project group.
  17. Participate in internal review activities and inter-discipline check meetings.

Requirements
  1. Evidence of successful work winning and business development.
  2. Experience working in a multi-discipline environment and EPC environment.
  3. Ability to estimate design and engineering hours and fabrication and installation budgets.
  4. Proven track record of building and retaining dynamic engineering teams.
  5. Proficient in design using tools such as Autocad Plant 3D, creation of cats and specs, Navisworks Manage / Clash detection, and chairing model reviews.
  6. Good working knowledge of ASME codes B31.3 / 4, standards and specifications, BS EN 13480, PED / PER.
  7. Minimum of 10-15 years post-graduate training.
  8. Chartered with IMechE with a design engineering bias.
