Liverpool, Liverpool, United Kingdom MPOWIR Mentoring Physical Oceanography Women to Increase Retention Full time

About the Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated Shelf Seas Modelling Scientist to join the Marine Systems Modelling group at the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) in Liverpool, UK. As a key member of the team, you will work on developing and applying the data-assimilation modelling system based on NEMO and NEMOVAR, currently used in the NW European Continental shelf seas.

Your responsibilities will include exploiting data arising from autonomous marine observing platforms, such as marine gliders, to predict the physical processes that control plankton growth in shelf seas. This includes seasonal onset and breakdown of stratification, mixing at the pycnocline and cross-frontal transport. You will also work on developing model validation approaches and systems using the full spectrum of in-situ and remotely sensed observations.

The role requires a strong scientific understanding and the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. You will have the opportunity to publish timely results in high impact scientific journals and contribute to the development of the field of ocean dynamics.

The starting salary band for this position is between £28,200 and £30,600 per annum (Band 6). Depending upon skills and experience, a salary uplift and/or additional allowances may be available for exceptional candidates.
