A talented and enthusiastic Coastal Scientist is sought to join the Marine Systems Modelling group at MPOWIR Mentoring Physical Oceanography Women to Increase Retention in Liverpool.

Job Overview

The role involves working with numerical models of near-coastal environments to improve understanding of shallow-water processes and land-sea interactions. The successful candidate will have a PhD in oceanography, marine science or marine engineering, or equivalent research experience, and a strong degree in numerate natural science, engineering or mathematics.

Main Responsibilities

Key tasks include:

  • Implementing and developing a nearshore wave model
  • Evaluating the performance of coupled hydrodynamic and wave models

The role will be split between two projects, with a focus on Official Development Assistance for Bangladesh and wave modelling in the coastal zone.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Numerical programming skills are essential, including expertise in languages such as FORTRAN. Scientific programming skills in MATLAB and Python are also required. Additionally, HPC/Linux Software environment skills are necessary. Excellent communication, oral, written and presentational skills are expected, as well as an aptitude for team working with both local and international partners.

Estimated salary: £55,000 per annum.
