Job Title: Newborn Hearing Screener

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Newborn Hearing Screener to join our team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trusts. As a Newborn Hearing Screener, you will play a vital role in identifying permanent, moderate, severe, and profound deafness and hearing impairment in newborn babies.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing Newborn Hearing Screens using specialized equipment, collecting accurate clinical test records, and undertaking data entry using computer and administrative skills. You will work as part of a team to deliver safe, quality, and efficient care to babies and their families, while developing key skills, abilities, and experience as a Newborn Hearing Screener.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify eligible newborns to be screened via a National failsafe.
  • Obtain verbal consent and perform the hearing screen on all babies using automated, technical equipment.
  • Identify and report faulty equipment, ensuring equipment is safety-checked, properly charged, and appropriately secured.
  • Collect clinical and test records and undertake data entry using several patient management systems.
  • Support a family-centered culture, ensuring no screens are missed and that any early discharges, home births, and out-of-area babies are identified.
  • Generate appointments for babies leaving hospital without a hearing screening performed within the National timescales (Key Performance Indicator).
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment, adhere to infection control and prevention policies.
  • Monitor stock control and ensure the safety and security of test equipment.
  • Undertake mandatory training.
  • Awareness of boundaries within the role and recognize personal development needs.
Requirements:
  • GCSE or equivalent qualifications including English and Mathematics, or evidence of competency gained through experience.
  • Evidence of recent learning.
  • Commitment to personal development.
  • Knowledge and understanding of newborn screening.
  • Experience of working with babies and mothers.
  • Experience of multi-agency working.
  • Awareness of patient confidentiality and data protection.
  • Computer literacy, with the ability to use a variety of IT programs.
  • Administrative skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and under pressure.
Working Arrangements:

The successful candidate will be required to work cross-site between City and QMC to cover a 7-day service. A flexible approach to work arrangements is essential, and the ability to work under pressure to reach key performance indicators is required.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all qualified candidates. If you are a motivated and dedicated individual who is passionate about delivering high-quality care to newborn babies and their families, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
