Position Overview

We are seeking a highly organised individual to assist the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme (NHSP) manager in the daily operations of the service. This role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with the local management team to ensure the effective delivery of hearing screening for newborns. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring that all newborns receive timely hearing assessments across various settings, including hospitals and outpatient clinics. Flexibility is essential, as this position requires working on a shift basis, including weekends and public holidays.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct hearing screenings for newborns in maternity and neonatal units.

- Foster a family-oriented environment within the maternity and neonatal units to ensure comprehensive screening.

- Identify newborns requiring screening and prioritise tasks effectively.

- Maintain accurate records of clinical data and oversee quality assurance checks for the team, reporting any discrepancies to the local management.

- Participate in local and national meetings as required.

- Manage resources efficiently, including stock control across multiple sites, and coordinate with administrative staff for inventory needs.

- Engage in continuous professional development and pursue additional training as necessary.

- Conduct audits and prepare reports for the service.

- Adhere to Trust and departmental policies and national screening protocols.

- Collaborate with the local manager to facilitate quarterly team meetings and educational training sessions.

- Support performance monitoring of screening staff.

- Act as a deputy for the local manager in their absence, with support from other team leaders.

- Report all incidents and accidents in accordance with Trust policy, escalating concerns to the local manager.

Role Requirements

The Lead Neonatal Hearing Assessor will be responsible for screening newborns across various healthcare settings. Qualifications and Experience

- Minimum of four GCSEs, including Maths and English (Grade C or above).

- Significant experience in Newborn Hearing Screening or related fields.

- Level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners or equivalent qualification.

- Proficiency in patient management systems and database management.

- Experience in line management and working independently.

- Strong communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive information.

- Excellent planning and organisational skills, with a focus on detail and time management.

- Ability to work under pressure and meet performance targets.

Physical and Other Requirements

- Capability to travel between sites and manage physical tasks associated with the role.

- A positive attitude, self-motivation, and a collaborative spirit are essential for success in this position.
