Company Overview: We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join our paediatric mortuary service as a Band 6 Anatomical Pathology Technician. The successful candidate will work in a recently renovated and expanded paediatric mortuary, providing a compassionate and high-quality mortuary service. Estimated salary: £37,338 - £44,962 per annum.

Job Description: As a Senior Anatomical Pathology Technician, you will be responsible for assisting in the provision of the Sheffield Children's Hospital paediatric mortuary service, conducting over 450 post-mortems per year. This includes working with coronial areas and hospital trusts for babies and children ranging from 12 weeks gestation to 18 years of age, including specialist forensic cases.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Providing a compassionate and high-quality mortuary service in conformance with relevant legislation, HTA code of practice, and guidance.
  • Assisting in the preparation of bodies for post-mortem examination, including dissection and reconstruction.
  • Working closely with other staff members to ensure efficient running of the mortuary and maintaining accurate records.

Requirements: Certificate in Anatomical Pathology technology or Level 3 Anatomical Pathology technology. Diploma in Anatomical Pathology technology or Level 4 Anatomical Pathology technology or equivalent experience. Commitment to undertake all on-the-job training and registration with AAPT (Association of Anatomical Pathology Technology). Evidence of relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Skills and Experience: Extensive relevant experience of working within a hospital or public mortuary. Experience mentoring staff, dealing with families and other service users. Dissection and reconstruction skills, including suturing, evisceration of organs, scalpel use, and suturing for facial reconstruction/corneal retrieval.

Salary and Benefits: The salary for this role is estimated at £40,000 per annum, pro rata for part-time staff.
