About the Role

The successful candidate will be a member of the multi-disciplinary CAMHS Service and will be based within the YJS. This post will be focused on early intervention and ensuring that groups of vulnerable children and young people have access to mental health advice and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • To ensure high quality mental health assessments of children and young people referred to YJS where indicated.
  • To identify the need for assessment through liaison with the Police, Courts, Probation, YJS, CAMHS and other appropriate agencies for young offenders who may also be experiencing mental health issues.
  • To provide access to a range of quality psychotherapeutic interventions in accordance with individual assessed need.
  • To provide consultation to the YJS Practitioners.
  • To provide clinical and managerial supervision to the wider CAMHS team.
  • To work as a co-therapist where appropriate with other members of the MDT.
  • To be responsible for and manage a defined complex caseload and undertake case management responsibilities within the caseload.
  • To contribute to the development of the Oldham CAMHS Youth Justice Care Pathway.

Requirements
  • Professional qualifications relevant to work in child and adolescent mental health nursing, social work, clinical psychology to masters level or equivalent experience.
  • Specialist post-qualification training in psychological therapy with children and families to at least equivalent of a postgraduate diploma level.
  • Accreditation with the appropriate accrediting bodies governing the specific modality.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Additional postgraduate qualifications relevant to child mental health.
  • Additional accredited training.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Theoretical approach and understanding of child and young people's mental health and development.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and government policy relating to children and young people's mental health.
  • Child protection knowledge and practice.
  • Specific theoretical knowledge related to therapeutic specialty.
  • Understanding of principles and methods of clinical audit, research, and service evaluation.
  • Understanding of current multi-agency landscape, including public sector reform.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work in partnership with children, young people, parents/carers, colleagues, and other agencies.
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing complex and sensitive information to children, young people, and families/carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
