Clinical Fellow Doctor in Acute Frailty Specialist

This role has been established to complement the current nurse specialist position, working under the supervision of the three nurse specialists and consultants. The post holder will act as an expert practitioner in specialist Gastroenterology nursing, providing expert advice and care to referred patients/relatives, requiring counselling skills. The post holder will also act as a nursing resource, providing advice, support, and teaching to other health professionals in the trust.
Main Duties of the Job- Develop and provide Nurse-led clinics for patients presenting with defined Gastroenterological and Liver conditions, adhering to protocols and guidelines.
- Provide high-standard care for patients with Inflammatory Bowel disease, Autoimmune Hepatitis, Viral hepatitis, and general Gastroenterology conditions.
- Manage a caseload independently, ensuring effective health promotion and education for patients and carers.
- Collaborate with the gastroenterology team to provide the highest possible standards of clinical care for gastrointestinal patients.
- Participate in the development of clinical guidelines for gastroenterology patients, working in conjunction with other members of the gastroenterology team.
- Act as an expert resource within the gastrointestinal service, providing clinical advice and support to hospital and community-based staff.
- Discuss best management of difficult cases with members of the gastroenterology team and other clinicians, ensuring the patient receives the highest standards of service possible.
- Collaborate with other clinical nurse specialists as required, acting as an expert resource for newly appointed nurse specialists.
- Ensure adequate records of all patients are maintained, with relevant information documented in patients' medical/nursing notes.
- Efficiently utilize available resources to meet service objectives and within trust budgets.
- Act as an expert resource, role model, and mentor to staff, providing formal and informal education and support.
- Identify specific training and education needs of patients/carers and facilitate meeting those needs, preparing and providing learning materials and teaching programmes for nursing staff and patients/relatives.
- Participate in the assessment of educational requirements of nursing staff and nursing students.
Essential criteria:
- First-level Registered Nurse
- ENB 998/Mentorship
- Up-to-date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues relating to the area of expertise
- Evidence of actively working towards the achievement of such, or evidence of ability to undertake study at this level
Desirable criteria:
- Experienced in leading MDT and providing high-quality patient-centered service
- Postgraduate knowledge relating to Viral Hepatitis and Liver-related conditions
- Postgraduate knowledge relating to Crohn's and colitis nursing
