Community Nurse for Children with Disabilities

About the Role
The Community and School Nurse will be a proactive nurse who works flexibly across the community and in our special schools delivering holistic, family-centered care for children and young people with complex health needs and disabilities. This is a dynamic role encompassing assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of clinical nursing care.
This will also involve delivery of specialist nursing care, including but not limited to: administration of medication, suctioning, tracheostomy care, gastrostomy management, and enteral feeding, seizure management.
The post holder will provide comprehensive support for children/young people and their families, including signposting to specialist services. They will deliver specialist training for families and care support staff, attend multi-professional meetings, including child protection case conferences.
They will also provide health advice for education, health, and care plans, nursing sleep service-supporting children with sleep difficulties, reviewing sleep medication, and offering support and strategies to parents.
The post holder will be mentoring, supporting, and supervising junior staff and student nurses.

Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Children's Nurse (RN Child/RSCN). RGN will be considered with relevant experience.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.

- Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience in nursing.
- Community/special school nursing experience.
- Experience working with children and young people with disabilities/complex health needs.
- Experience supporting staff and students and providing supervision.
- Experience working with challenging families and ability to manage conflict.
- Safeguarding knowledge and experience.
- Ability to work well as part of a team.
- Experience of building strong partnerships, maintaining relationships, and co-producing solutions to challenges across a diverse set of stakeholders, including children, young people, and their families.
- Experience of keeping and maintaining records (in accordance with local policy) and producing accurate reports, presentations, and written updates to a range of stakeholders (which may include families, children, or young people).
- Knowledge of statutory legislation (for example, Children's Act) and national policy drivers that will affect children's services and your role.
- Experience of addressing specific equality or diversity issues within your practice with colleagues/service users and taking action to solve them.
