About the Role

As a Materials and Analytical Science Laboratory Technician Apprentice at AWE, you will embark on a 3.5-year journey to develop a complete set of skills and knowledge required to work successfully in our laboratories.

You will spend the first few weeks within the Skills Academy before joining the Materials and Analytical Sciences team based in our laboratories across the AWE Aldermaston site.

Our team is responsible for the research, testing and analysis of various materials, which is vital in ensuring the delivery of our mission while keeping our people and environment safe.

You will undertake various laboratory-based tasks, including laboratory safety, handling of hazardous substances, quality and its application in a laboratory environment, customer service skills, and use of laboratory equipment.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity for personal development through team building challenges, organisational awareness presentations, health and safety workshops, and charity projects.

About You

We are looking for individuals with excellent team working skills, good communication skills, awareness of health and safety, and the ability to follow instructions.

You will need to be a British National, aged 18 or over as of 31st August 2025, with five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including Maths and English, and three A Levels including Chemistry (or equivalent).

You must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to work in designated areas.
