Job Purpose

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will provide vital mentorship to students with learning difficulties and disabilities, emotional and behavioural needs, who are enrolled in mainstream or discrete courses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement detailed assessments and monitoring of support strategies to ensure students receive the best possible care.
  • Carry out instructions from the Learning Support Co-ordinator and liaise with teaching staff on a daily basis to ensure seamless support.
  • Participate in continuous professional development and training to enhance personal growth and improve work performance.
  • Escort and assist students with mobility difficulties, providing personal care as needed, in accordance with individual support plans.
  • Accompany students on curriculum-related visits, such as work experience and residential trips, and act as an advocate to encourage self-advocacy.
  • Support students in becoming independent and relay concerns and issues to teaching staff and departmental managers.
  • Assist with detailed individual assessments of student needs and devise support strategies with senior departmental staff and other College professionals.
  • Liaise with the Learning Mentor Coordinator and attend regular team meetings to ensure effective support.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Understand and adhere to College Health and Safety policies and guidelines, ensuring compliance with statutory legislation.
  • Undertake other duties as may be reasonably required.
  • Take appropriate responsibility for PREVENT and the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children and/or vulnerable adults.
