Specialist Physiotherapist - Neurosurgery

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Physiotherapist to join our Neurosurgical therapy team at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will have a passion for assessing and treating complex neurological patients in areas such as spines, critical care, oncology, and brain injuries.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience of working at Band 5 or Band 6 level or above within acute or community settings relevant to Neurosurgery. They will also have undertaken significant postgraduate training in the area of neurosurgery specialty and have experience of working in a complex MDT in an acute inpatient setting.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and treating a wide variety of patients in a complex Neurosurgical clinical setting, including managing patients with brain tumours and post spinal surgery. They will also be expected to demonstrate effective communication skills with patients with altered cognition and barriers to communication, as well as evidence of autonomous decision making in an acute neurosurgical setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and treat complex neurological patients in areas such as spines, critical care, oncology, and brain injuries
  • Manage patients with brain tumours and post spinal surgery
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with patients with altered cognition and barriers to communication
  • Make autonomous decisions in an acute neurosurgical setting
  • Work in a complex MDT in an acute inpatient setting

Person Specification

  • Degree in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registered in Physiotherapy
  • Masters level studying in area of speciality (complete or Modules)
  • Member of the CSP

Experience

  • Significant experience of working at Band 5 or Band 6 level or above within acute or community relevant to Neurosurgery
  • Undertaken significant postgraduate training in area of neurosurgery specialty
  • Experience of working in a complex MDT in an acute inpatient setting
  • Evidence of effective communication skills with patients with altered cognition and barriers to communication
  • Evidence of respiratory skills and ability to work patients with tracheostomies
  • Evidence of autonomous decision making in an acute neurosurgical setting
  • Evidence of assessing and treating a wide variety of patients in a complex Neurosurgical clinical setting
  • Experience of managing patients with brain tumours
  • Experience of managing patients post spinal surgery

Skills

  • Strong evidence of supervision / competent clinical educator in an inpatient clinical setting
  • Evidence of ability to manage conflict in a clinic setting
  • Evidence of quality improvement work or Service development within a clinical setting
