Job Title: Environmental Sustainability Director

IBP Recruitment Ltd is seeking a dedicated Environmental Sustainability Director to join our client's SHEQ team. In this pivotal role, you will lead the charge in advancing Environmental Management and Sustainability initiatives, ensuring they align with and drive the SHEQ and Decarbonisation strategies.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Environmental Management: Ensure contracts and operational activities exceed Environmental Management System and legislative compliance requirements.
  2. Sustainability Reporting: Liaise with and report on relevant environmental, sustainability, and carbon capture KPIs and progress against business targets and objectives.
  3. Strategy Development: Lead on, drive awareness, and deliver requirements of the business Environment and Carbon strategies.
  4. Contract Mobilisation: Support on work winning and contract mobilisation where required.
  5. Awards and Communications: Ensure contracts/projects are represented in awards submissions, external communications, and industry events for environmental initiatives.
  6. Third-Party Assurance: Responsible for providing third-party assurance on the implementation of the Environmental Management System at contract/project level to meet ISO 14001 requirements.
  7. Operational Support: Support operational teams with environmental guidance and advice and in the production of internal and external reports.
  8. Incident Investigations: Lead on VSI environmental incident investigations and support corrective actions where required.
  9. Regulatory Liaison: Liaise with regulators and other stakeholders to drive cross-contract improvements.
  10. Audits and Compliance: Carry out internal and external audits of contracts, projects, and supply chain.

Requirements:

  1. At least 7 years' experience in the construction, utilities, or telecoms industry or relevant environmental experience in a similar sector.
  2. Experience managing diverse teams of environmental specialists on construction projects across a multi-disciplined team.
  3. Experience working at a senior manager level while generating effective engagement operational approaches to deliver environmental improvements.
  4. Strong organisational and project management skills.
  5. Ability to challenge poor performance and approach difficult conversations in an appropriate and engaging manner.
  6. Degree-level qualification in an appropriate Environmental, Carbon Management, or related discipline (or equivalent).
  7. Project Management Qualification would be advantageous.
  8. Recent proven experience of working in a senior Environment/sustainability position.
  9. Ability to use work management systems, Microsoft Office 365 applications, produce reports, analyse data, and implement strategies/action plans.
