In this pivotal role, you will lead the charge in advancing Environmental Management and Sustainability initiatives, ensuring they align with and drive the SHEQ and Decarbonisation strategies.
Main Responsibilities:
- Environmental Management: Ensure contracts and operational activities exceed Environmental Management System and legislative compliance requirements.
- Sustainability Reporting: Liaise with and report on relevant environmental, sustainability, and carbon capture KPIs and progress against business targets and objectives.
- Carbon Strategy: Lead on, drive awareness, and deliver requirements of the business Environment and Carbon strategies.
- Contract Mobilisation: Support on work winning and contract mobilisation where required.
- Awards and Communications: Ensure contracts/projects are represented in awards submissions, external communications, and industry events for environmental initiatives.
- Environmental Assurance: Responsible for providing third-party assurance on the implementation of the Environmental Management System at contract/project level to meet ISO 14001 requirements.
- Operational Support: Support operational teams with environmental guidance and advice and in the production of internal and external reports.
- Incident Investigations: Lead on VSI environmental incident investigations and support and advise on corrective actions (where required).
- Regulatory Liaison: Liaise with regulators and other stakeholders to drive cross-contract improvements.
- Audits and Compliance: Carry out internal and external audits of contracts, projects, and supply chain.
Requirements:
- At least 7 years' construction, utilities, or telecoms industry experience or relevant environmental experience in a similar sector.
- Experience managing diverse teams of environmental specialists on construction projects across a multi-disciplined team.
- Experience working at a senior manager level while generating effective engagement operational approaches to deliver environmental improvements.
- Strong organisational and project management skills.
- Ability to challenge poor performance and approach difficult conversations in an appropriate and engaging manner.
- Degree-level qualification in an appropriate Environmental, Carbon Management, or related discipline (or equivalent).
- Project Management Qualification would be advantageous.
- Recent proven experience of working in a senior Environment/sustainability position.
- Ability to use work management systems, Microsoft Office 365 applications, produce reports, analyse data, and implement strategies/action plans.
