Role:

The Chief Climate and Sustainability Risk Officer will be responsible for leading the company's efforts in identifying, assessing, and managing climate-related risks across the organization.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Management and leadership of the climate and sustainability risk team, with a focus on climate risk, including policies, procedures, and governance structures for effective climate risk management.
  2. Design and implementation of a Sustainability Risk program, with a focus on forward-looking risks such as nature and biodiversity risks.
  3. Responsible for adapting and implementing financial and non-financial risk programs to identify, assess, measure, treat, monitor, and report on climate risk.
  4. Collaboration with key stakeholders in the 1LOD, 2LOD, and Corporate groups to ensure appropriate responsibility and accountability for climate risk management, including the establishment of a broad climate risk database to satisfy international disclosure requirements and stakeholder inquiries.
  5. Development of a strong relationship with CSISI and provision of advice and challenge to the Climate and Sustainability programs across the Enterprise.
  6. Initiation of reporting on transition risk for the credit and investment portfolio, which will form part of the Enterprise Transition Plan.
  7. Assistance and/or leadership in the design and execution of scenario analysis to examine the consequences of climate risk over both the short and long terms, in accordance with industry standards.
  8. Keeping abreast of climate risk regulatory development, contributing to market consultations, and engaging with regulatory authorities, leveraging the Enterprise regulatory change framework to ensure that all relevant regulation is captured and assessed.
  9. Participation in and/or presentation to senior management and/or Board committees.
  10. Leadership and advice on climate risk-related engagement with global regulators.
  11. Establishment of key Climate Risk metrics and impacts that will influence strategic decision-making.
  12. Ensuring actions will be taken to maximize preparedness for business continuity events and overall operational resiliency.
  13. Overseeing plans and directing the activities for the Climate Risk team, ensuring that business objectives are being met.
  14. Participation in governance forums as required, e.g., ESG Disclosure Council, Enterprise Sustainability Council.

Skills/Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

  1. Influencing and negotiating skills, with great latitude on outcomes.
  2. Deep knowledge of climate risk regulatory environment, with ability to provide long-term strategic planning and manage tactical deliverables.
  3. Leadership and organizational skills to direct the activities of the governance bodies overseeing climate risk.
  4. Thorough knowledge of corporate, industry, and business unit activities, compliance-related requirements, and risk mitigation techniques.
  5. Analytical and communication skills to review/approve policies and procedures and work with line areas to oversee and manage risk activities.
  6. College or university degree and/or relevant proven work experience in Risk Management, with direct understanding of and experience with climate risk management strongly preferred.
  7. Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with being able to be highly flexible and adaptable to change.
  8. Climate Risk and/or Sustainability Risk qualification.
