Main Purpose
The role of Business Development Manager involves identifying and qualifying business opportunities to grow volumes within our agency. Developing and maintaining customer relationships with clients across various sectors is crucial to this role, as it ensures long-term volume growth. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing their portfolio of accounts to ensure that all customers receive a five-star journey in all aspects of day-to-day service delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the business pipeline effectively to increase volumes across their portfolio of customers.
- Following up on sales leads to secure new business.
- Using various platforms to search for new business opportunities and sales leads.
- Establishing and maintaining excellent customer relationships through regular interactions, including face-to-face meetings, MS Teams meetings, and regular phone calls.
- Performing pipeline compliance to ensure the success of all volumes are accurately recorded, monitored, and delivered.
- Ensuring the smooth handover of accounts to the customer service team and other agencies through effective communication and stakeholder management.
- Creating and promoting a positive support network for customers through effective teamwork and communication with other agencies.
- Managing customer invoice disputes and performing root cause analysis to avoid repeats.
- Producing weekly, monthly, and quarterly updates on key data, analysis of volume gains and losses, sales activities, and business opportunities/threats from other lines.
Key Competencies & Qualifications
Skills & Experience
- In-depth knowledge of the shipping industry, with a bonus for knowledge of the short-sea market.
- Technical skills in developing specialist supply chain networks.
- Proven development skills, including sales and marketing strategy planning.
- Adaptable, flexible, and solutions-driven with sound decision-making skills.
Practical & Technical Knowledge
- Strong commercial/sales background with proven negotiating skills.
- Shipping or Logistics company experience, including European supply chain.
- Understanding of systems to extract and interpret sales data.
- Proven innovative experience in building network solutions.
Qualifications
A business graduate or experienced customer account manager within the sales sector. Experience in the shipping industry is preferable but not essential.
