Deputy Director Policy Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Deputy Director Policy to join our team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide line management of a busy planning and control team responsible for delivering high-quality Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS) that supports clinical areas/teams and patient satisfaction.
  • Plan and oversee the day-to-day organisation of all staff within the Planning and Control department, working autonomously to understand and drive operating targets, budget controls, and relevant HR management.
  • Ensure effective processes and procedures are in place to monitor and track performance against agreed targets within the service.
  • Exercise delegated authority on behalf of the NEPTS Scheduling Manager to resolve day-to-day management issues within the service, organising and reallocating work where situations change due to variations to the workload and staffing availability.
Management and Leadership
  • Day-to-day managerial responsibility for all Planners and Controllers.
  • Set objectives and review performance of service staff, identifying individual training and development needs and promoting continued personal and professional development.
  • Manage annual leave, sickness, disciplinary and performance issues in line with Trust policies and the effective delivery of service.
Quality, Risk and Governance

Manage the implementation and overall management of office systems, control processes and risk management arrangements to ensure effective delivery of the NEPTS planning and control.

Financial Management

Manage the service budget, ensuring that expenditure is within agreed limits and escalating issues to the NEPTS Scheduling Manager.

Our patient transport service is available for patients who cannot travel to or from our hospitals using any other method of transport due to their medical or mobility condition, or because their medical condition would otherwise worsen.

We are a large busy and friendly team with our own in-house transport team. We support each other and constantly strive to look for improvements in making our service the best it can possibly be for patients. We are part of the ISO9001 standards and with the processes we have in place, our yearly external audits have enabled us to achieve positive results.
