Senior Clinical Fellow in Anaesthesia (MN37) - Anaesthesia - Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a Senior Clinical Fellow in Anaesthesia to join their team. This is a unique opportunity for Trust Doctors to gain a broad and varied experience of anaesthesia and intensive care in West London as part of the established Imperial LiPA Training Programme.

The post holder will rotate through multiple hospitals within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust as well as the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Royal Brompton Hospital, Moorfields Eye Hospital, and Hillingdon NHS Foundation Trust. The posts commence in February 2025 for one year in the first instance, extendable to July 2029, subject to satisfactory assessments and the post holder's requirements.

The aim of this post is to provide the post holder with a broad and varied experience of anaesthesia and intensive care with a view to making a CESR application and joining the Specialist Register. A minimum of three years prior anaesthetic experience, the Primary FRCA (or equivalent), and an understanding of UK medical practice is required for this post.

Candidates must hold or be eligible for full registration with the GMC. The successful candidates will be expected to work flexibly. Non-UK/EEA applicants should ensure they are aware of recent changes to the immigration rules for Postgraduate Doctors and Dentists.

Successful candidates will rotate through the various hospitals in order to cover the breadth of the 2021 Anaesthesia curriculum by the RCOA and can be supported in their application for a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR), if they wish. Clinical rotations will include specialist clinical domains including Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Obstetrics, Paediatrics, and Acute and Chronic Pain. There are also opportunities to pursue special interest areas (SIA's) in a number of surgical sub-specialties.

At Imperial College Healthcare, you can achieve extraordinary things with extraordinary people, working with leading clinicians pushing boundaries in patient care. Become part of a vibrant team living our values - expert, kind, collaborative, and aspirational. You'll get an experience like no other and will fast forward your career. Benefits include career development, flexible working, and wellbeing, staff recognition scheme. Make use of optional benefits including Cycle to work, car lease schemes, season ticket loan, or membership options for onsite leisure facilities.

The statutory requirement to be fully Covid-19 vaccinated as a condition of employment from April 2022 is subject to legislative review. At Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, we strongly encourage and support vaccination uptake as this remains the best line of defence against COVID-19. The successful applicant may have contact with patients and service users and as part of our pre-employment checks and risk assessments, we will ask all candidates to confirm whether or not they have been fully vaccinated or have a medical exemption.

This clinical trust doctor post will rotate through hospitals on a 6-monthly basis for one year initially. However, the post can be extended up to 4 years in total, dependent on the clinical and educational needs of the post holder. Rotating through multiple hospitals will enable the post holder to gain experience in most aspects of anaesthesia and intensive care required by the UK anaesthetic curriculum. The length of time spent in each hospital will be tailored to the post holder's educational requirements.

The main site for the post holder will be Hammersmith Hospital at the Du Cane Road site. The successful candidates will work with their designated educational supervisor or clinical lead for their sub-specialty area to design and develop a programme of clinical work that suits their individual professional goals and objectives. Trust Doctors will also be encouraged to join in and become an integral part of the departmental academic, clinical governance, and audit programmes. The post-holder is expected to work in a professional and courteous manner with the nursing, paramedical and clerical staff, and surgical and other medical colleagues, and the managerial staff.
