Job Overview

The Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Clinician to join our Psychiatric Liaison Service team. As a key member of our team, you will provide expert mental health advice, support, and training to staff, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality care to patients in crisis.

Main Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting psychosocial assessments for patients in crisis and possessing excellent risk assessment skills.
  • Working autonomously and competently at Band 6 level when undertaking assessments, including managing volume and demand in the busy and sometimes challenging ED working environment.
  • Arranging and providing brief evidence-based psycho-social treatments for patients who have self-harmed.
  • Supporting timely and safe discharge from the wards, working closely with the acute Trust to avoid unnecessary prolonged lengths of stay in the hospital environment.
  • Contributing to reducing unnecessary inpatient admissions to secondary care and supporting and maintaining appropriate care packages for patients as an alternative to admission.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Current Registration with a relevant professional body.
  • Experience in crisis assessments and conducting risk assessments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Clear decision-making capabilities and a vocal advocate for patients.
  • Current knowledge and expertise in the care of patients with severe and enduring mental health issues.
