About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and organized Medical Secretary to join our team at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. As a Medical Secretary, you will be responsible for providing high-quality administrative support to our medical staff, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  1. To provide accurate and timely typing and word processing services, utilizing medical terminology as required.
  2. To obtain investigation results and exercise judgment to ensure that medical attention is urgently drawn to abnormal results.
  3. To communicate efficiently and correctly with patients, colleagues, and medical staff, handling sensitive and complex information with discretion.
  4. To act up in the absence of the Senior Team Secretary, ensuring all duties are completed in an effective and efficient manner.
  5. To provide cross-cover for the secretarial team during absences.
  6. To respond positively and promptly to enquiries and problems received from patients, medical staff, and other agencies, using initiative to take appropriate action in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  7. To be committed to continual self-development and training to meet the requirements and further development of the specialty.
  8. To respond in a professional and sensitive manner when dealing with confidential issues to patients, relatives, and other agencies.
  9. To accurately create records and update patient-related information onto the computerized Patient Administration System.
  10. To take responsibility for patient notes in the office pertaining to own work.
  11. To assist with the training and induction of any new or less experienced secretarial/support staff.
  12. To be familiar with and comply with all Trust and Departmental Policies and procedures.
  13. To participate in appraisals to agree/revise Personal Development Plans.
  14. To work closely with Health Records Staff and Team members to ensure the development of an efficient Team to effectively support the Directorate/Department.
  15. To attend and participate in regular staff meetings.
  16. To compile and maintain an up-to-date secretarial job plan/cover folder for secretarial team.
  17. To participate in team, professional, and personal development activities and promote commitment to continuous development and improvement.

  • Qualifications A-C GCSE or equivalent
