Customs Documentation Specialist

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Customs Documentation Clerk to join our team at Red Recruit, a leading recruitment agency specializing in freight and shipping. As a Customs Documentation Clerk, you will be responsible for producing customs declarations, ensuring all clearance processes are completed in a compliant and timely manner, and providing professional and effective administration support to the Customs Clearing / Multimodal Team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete day-to-day customs clearing and entries for all sea and road freight shipments, including EADs & T1s.
- Create, manage, and maintain the correct documentation as each case progresses, ensuring data input accuracy.
- Handle customer inquiries in writing, in person, or by providing accurate advice and estimates when required.
- Communicate with external organizations, such as HMRC, Port Authorities, Shipping Lines, and Hauliers, via telephone or written correspondence.
- Obtain necessary Bill of Lading and correct Tariff Headings, and process payments from customers in line with company policy.
- Calculate Duty / VAT cost for each consignment.
- Process Import/Export declarations.
- Deal with general inquiries from importers/exporters, internal, and external sources concerning customs procedures, tariff classifications, duty rates, and documentation requirements.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in regulations, laws, and customs procedures.
- Collaborate with different departments in multiple locations to prepare a complete list of jobs (shipments requiring customs entries) for the day.
Requirements:
- 2 years of experience in a similar role.
- HMRC - Customs declarations experience, Imports and exports.
- Experience of dealing with T1's, POA, EAD, Transit documents.
- Attention to detail is crucial to ensure the business is compliant and passes HMRC audits, including risk identification and mitigation.
- Excellent communication skills to keep all relevant departments within the company informed about customs declarations for the day's shipments.
- Experience of checking and processing all relevant documentation for shipments.
- Understanding of different customs procedures and requirements. Experience of Destin8 & Descarte & CNS Systems would be an advantage.

The successful Customs Documentation Clerk will be offered a competitive salary, up to £32,000, in line with skills and experience.
