SEN Support Assistant

Role Purpose:
The successful candidate will join our Learning Support Department to provide guidance and support to students with special educational needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the SEN team in developing personal development plans for students with special educational needs.
- Communicate with teachers, key workers, and other stakeholders to ensure students receive targeted support.
- Monitor student progress, intervene where necessary, and update teachers on support strategies.
- Support the implementation of intervention strategies to remove obstacles to learning.
- Undertake mentoring and reflection activities with students.
- Assist with duty and patrol, ensuring student conduct is orderly and positive.
- Maintain pupil records, gathering and imparting relevant information to others.
- Support year teams and attend key events, such as assemblies and parents' evenings.
- Attend SENplan meetings, MAP meetings, and other relevant meetings as required.
Requirements:
- Appropriate qualifications and experience for professionals other than teachers.
- Understanding and experience of current developments in secondary education.
- Understanding and experience of child protection and safeguarding issues.
- Understanding and experience of tackling social, emotional, and psychological obstacles to students' learning and achievement.
- Knowledge of the implications for working in a multicultural environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of issues related to equal opportunities and their implications for classroom practices in teaching.
- Understanding of children with Special Educational Needs and the barriers they may face in a mainstream school.
