You will play a key role in empowering our Underwriters to support sustainable growth, ensuring we remain a specialist in our chosen markets. This is a thoroughly rewarding opportunity to make an impact within a purpose-led organisation that gives all available profits to charities and good causes.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership - Act as the lead expert across the Casualty portfolio, providing deep technical expertise and strategic guidance.
- Portfolio Management - Ensure that the Group has a fit-for-purpose and proportionate portfolio management underwriting framework for all of its Casualty businesses.
- Technical Referrals - Provide an independent view on issues arising from formal referrals for the largest and most complex risks.
- Training and Development - Provide overall leadership for the technical development of Casualty Underwriters and ensure the need for technical succession is fulfilled.
- Relationships - Ensure adequate liaison between Underwriting, Claims, and Risk Management to foster collaboration and that Claims and Risk Management philosophies align with our underwriting strategy.
- Compliance - Ensure the Casualty portfolio operates in line with Group control environment, risk management framework, and UK regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Reinsurance - Review the appropriateness of Group reinsurance coverages and work closely with the Reinsurance Team to deliver an optimal reinsurance programme.
- Market Developments - Review emerging technical and legal issues, as well as market developments to support the ongoing development of the Casualty portfolio.
- Underwriting Appetite - Approve and monitor any changes to the UK underwriting appetite.
- ACII qualified.
- Experience at a senior underwriting leadership level in commercial Casualty insurance.
- Detailed understanding of Casualty policy wordings, risk selection, and pricing techniques.
- Sound understanding of types and strategic use of reinsurance.
- Highly credible in the UK insurance market, with personal authority and credibility to establish a strong Ecclesiastical presence nationally.
