Casualty Director

Ecclesiastical Insurance, a leading provider of commercial casualty insurance, is seeking a highly experienced Casualty Director to join its London office.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of casualty policy wordings, risk selection, and pricing techniques, as well as a strong track record of leadership and technical expertise.
The Casualty Director will be responsible for leading a team of underwriters, shaping the underwriting strategy, and driving a sophisticated pricing approach across the casualty lines of business.

Key Responsibilities- Leadership: Act as the lead expert across the casualty portfolio, providing deep technical expertise and strategic guidance.
- Portfolio Management: Ensure that the Group has a fit-for-purpose and proportionate portfolio management underwriting framework for all casualty businesses.
- Technical Referrals: Provide an independent view on issues arising from formal referrals for the largest and most complex risks.
- Training and Development: Provide overall leadership for the technical development of casualty underwriters and ensure the need for technical succession is fulfilled.
- Relationships: Ensure adequate liaison between underwriting, claims, and risk management to foster collaboration and that claims and risk management philosophies align with the underwriting strategy.
- Compliance: Ensure the casualty portfolio operates in line with Group control environment, risk management framework, and UK regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Reinsurance: Review the appropriateness of Group reinsurance coverages and work closely with the Reinsurance Team to deliver an optimal reinsurance programme.
- Market Developments: Review emerging technical and legal issues, as well as market developments to support the ongoing development of the casualty portfolio.
- Underwriting Appetite: Approve and monitor any changes to the UK underwriting appetite, including the identification of future appetite expansions to support the ambitious growth strategy.
- ACII qualified.
- Experience at a senior underwriting leadership level in commercial casualty insurance.
- Detailed understanding of casualty policy wordings, risk selection, and pricing techniques.
- Sound understanding of types and strategic use of reinsurance.
- Highly credible in the UK insurance market, with personal authority and credibility to establish a strong Ecclesiastical presence nationally.
