Job Summary

The Patient Access Coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact for patients and service users, providing in-depth knowledge of outpatient and inpatient scheduling procedures for their specialty.

Main Responsibilities
  • Act as the first point of contact for all patient access queries to the Trust.
  • Ensure that the vetting process is followed for all new referral letters in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Be responsible for scheduling outpatient, elective admissions, and associated appointments according to clinical urgency and length of wait, adhering to departmental procedures and Trust Policies.
  • Liaise with patients prior to their visit to ensure a mutually convenient date and time is agreed.
  • Ensure patients are appropriately reminded of their appointments, including sending reminder letters or contacting patients by telephone up to seven days before their visit, in line with departmental protocols.
  • Ensure departmental standards are met for patients receiving notification or acknowledgement of their visit.
  • Provide a courteous and efficient point of contact for patients both face-to-face and over the telephone.
  • Ensure each patient is treated as an individual and their individual needs are met, including providing appropriate support for their appointment, such as interpreting support.
Department Information

The Nuclear Medicine Department is a highly specialized unit that employs 60 staff and has an annual revenue budget of £1.8m. The department provides services including thyroid clinic, general nuclear medicine, inpatient facilities, and osteoporosis screening, earning a significant amount of external income through its radio-pharmaceutical dispensary and having an international reputation for research and development.
