Job Description

Location: AWE Plc is based in the UK, with a specific site located between Reading and Basingstoke.

Job Overview: We are currently recruiting for a Principal Nuclear Warhead Safety Engineer to join our Warhead Engineering Surety Group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake technical assessments and provide advice on major hazards associated with nuclear and explosives products.
  • Provide safety information to Operators to incorporate into their Safety Cases.
  • Conduct safety-related research experiments or topics, teach nuclear product safety, and develop electronic Safety Case tools.
  • Undertake nuclear safety assessments, safety management activities, and product design safety.

Requirements:

  • Degree or postgraduate qualifications in Science or Engineering or a related subject.
  • PhD candidates would also be suited to this role.
  • Previous experience working on munitions and/or nuclear reactors or other high-hazard industries.
  • Knowledge of Safety Case content and ALARP determination.
  • Understanding of Defence or Civil nuclear regulations.
  • Ability to undertake critical analysis and assessment of complex systems.
  • Effective communication skills (written, presentation, and spoken).
  • Leadership or management of related safety projects.
