Customer Service Manager

Smith Memorial Playground and Playhouse, a beloved destination in East Fairmount Park, seeks a skilled Manager of Visitor Services to oversee the front desk, facility rentals, and public and private visits. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising staff, managing visitor experience, and supporting the organization's mission to provide opportunities for unstructured free play for children.
Key Responsibilities- Set the tone for exceptional customer service and become a play resource for adult caregivers.
- Support the creation and implementation of nature-based activities for families.
- Lead the hiring process for part-time seasonal staff, including training and supervision.
- Supervise security associates and part-time seasonal staff, ensuring visitor needs are met and safety guidelines are communicated.
- Act as a working supervisor on the Playground, managing opening and closing procedures, and communicating changes to staff.
- Evaluate staff performance, including issuing warnings and creating write-ups as needed.
- Manage front desk and administrative tasks, including scheduling, timesheets, and data collection.
- Support efforts to increase membership and provide support for events and grant-funded programs.
The ideal candidate will have a GED or high school equivalent, with a CDA or Bachelor's degree preferred. Two years of experience supervising staff in customer service, hospitality, community, environmental education, or preschool settings is desirable. Experience working with youth in urban communities and familiarity with the Philadelphia non-profit sector is a plus.
Completion of background clearances, including PA Child Abuse History and criminal background check, is required. The successful candidate must be able to work weekends, some evenings, and varying hours, and be able to lift 25 pounds.
