We are seeking an enthusiastic Orthoptist to join our team at Moorfields Eye Hospital in central London. As an Orthoptist, you will work alongside a multidisciplinary team, including ophthalmologists, nurses, optometrists, technicians, administrative staff, and healthcare assistants.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a full range of sub-specialty clinics, including botulinum toxin, motility, neuro-ophthalmology, adnexal, core orthoptics, and children's vision clinics. You will also support highly specialized pediatric clinics, including cataracts, glaucoma, adnexal, nystagmus, and SEN services. One day a week, you will work at a network site to support care closer to home.

Our orthoptic department has strong links with education, providing academic and clinical training to a range of healthcare professionals. We regularly contribute to clinical research for internal and external research grants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the orthoptic assessment, diagnosis, and management of new patients referred to the orthoptic department from the Trust's specialist services at City Road, including Primary Care Clinic (PCC) and A&E.
  • Prepare patients for Botulinum Toxin injections by instilling drops and preparing and attaching electrodes, and assist medical colleagues with follow-up consent for Botulinum Toxin treatments.
  • Demonstrate, teach, and supervise medical and non-medical personnel, including undergraduate orthoptics and medical students, junior doctors, pre-registration optometrists, and work experience students, as directed by the Education Lead.
  • Participate in departmental and relevant specialist service audits and professional development activities.
Person Specification
  • Degree or diploma in Orthoptics
  • Experience in tertiary referral centers
  • Experience in outreach/community settings
