Specialist Orthoptist

We are seeking an experienced Orthoptist to join our team at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The successful candidate will have a special interest in complex paediatric orthoptics and be able to work autonomously as an orthoptist managing a wide and complex paediatric clinical caseload.
The ideal candidate will have experience in all aspects of clinical orthoptics, including clinical experience in specialist paediatric orthoptics to provide an expert opinion in assessing, diagnosing and managing highly complex paediatric orthoptic patients.
The post-holder will be supported by the Head Orthoptist and 6 further Orthoptists, along with 8 Consultant Ophthalmologists, optometrists, visual scientists and clinical nurse specialists.
Main Duties of the JobTo work within the multi-disciplinary team working autonomously as an orthoptist managing a wide and complex paediatric clinical caseload within Great Ormond Street Hospital
To provide Orthoptic services as an autonomous practitioner to assess, diagnose and manage patients referred to the Orthoptic departments within Great Ormond Street Hospital
To undertake clinical audit and to take responsibility for own continuing professional development

Essential Criteria- Possession of Orthoptic Degree or Diploma
- Evidence of on-going professional development
- Registration with Health Care Pressions Council
- Experience with teaching undergraduate orthoptic students
The ideal candidate will have experience in all aspects of clinical orthoptics, including clinical experience in specialist paediatric orthoptics to provide an expert opinion in assessing, diagnosing and managing highly complex paediatric orthoptic patients.
The candidate must have a current UK Orthoptic Qualification and be registered with the HCPC.
Skills/AbilitiesThe ideal candidate will be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team or independently as an autonomous practitioner, and have exceptional verbal and written skills to facilitate good communication.
The candidate must be able to work under pressure in a busy environment and have good presentation skills for formal and informal teaching, and for clinical audit.
The candidate must also be able to develop good working relationships with hospital staff at all levels and maintain patient confidentiality.
