Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Band 6 Community Specialist Physiotherapist to join our Integrated MSK Service in Surrey Downs Health and Care.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialist MSK physiotherapy services to patients across a range of outpatient settings, including GP clinics, outpatient departments, and community hospitals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the band 6 rotational schedule, working across Surrey Downs in a range of outpatient settings.
  • Formulate and deliver individual physiotherapy treatment programmes based on evidence-based practice and treatment options.
  • Manage clinical risk within own patient caseload, seeking guidance from band 7s or APPs as appropriate.
  • Work within Surrey Downs Health and Care and CSP clinical guidelines, maintaining a good working knowledge of national and local standards.
  • Make accurate and complete records of work undertaken, keeping monthly statistics in line with CSP and physiotherapy department standards.
  • Teach, assess, and contribute to the performance assessment of junior physiotherapists and physiotherapy technical staff.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Maintain own clinical professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of new developments and trends, incorporating them as necessary into practice.
  • Participate in in-service training programmes, attending and contributing to discussions and presentations.
  • Participate in the Surrey Downs Health and Care appraisal scheme, formulating a personal development plan.
  • Teach student physiotherapists to graduate level on physiotherapeutic skills and knowledge within core clinical areas.
  • Participate in data collection and occasionally lead clinical audit within the Physiotherapy department or as part of the MDT.
Organisational Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for equipment used in carrying out physiotherapy duties, adhering to departmental policies and guidelines to ensure safe use of equipment.
  • Assist in the supervision and co-ordination of junior staff and assistants on a daily basis, ensuring their practice meets the required professional standards.
General Responsibilities
  • Attend Statutory and mandatory training in line with Surrey Downs Health and Care.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures of the physiotherapy department of Surrey Downs Health and Care.
Health and Safety Responsibilities
  • Observe local Health and Safety arrangements, taking reasonable care of themselves and others affected by their work.
  • Assist in the regular monitoring and maintenance of equipment in accordance with health and safety regulations.
  • Act immediately on safety notices and hazard warnings related to equipment used/prescribed by the Physiotherapy Service.
  • Co-operate within Surrey Downs Health and Care to ensure that statutory and departmental regulations are adhered to.
Safeguarding Responsibilities
  • Safeguard children and vulnerable adults, promoting their welfare.
  • Work within Surrey Downs Health and Care safeguarding policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Awareness of paediatric MSK conditions.
Qualifications
  • Degree in physiotherapy.
  • Evidence of CPD, including attendance at relevant postgraduate training.
  • Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
Experience
  • NHS (or equivalent) experience as a band 5 in a broad range of rotational posts.
  • Experience of working as part of a physiotherapy and/or multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience of supervision of physiotherapy assistants or students.
  • Involvement in audit, research, and understanding of quality issues.
