Safety Engineering Role Overview:

Matchtech is seeking a highly skilled Senior Product Safety Engineer to contribute to the safety engineering field, particularly within the land vehicle systems sector. This contract-based position involves collaborating with the Weapon Systems UK Product Integrity team to ensure the highest levels of product safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and analyze product safety targets to meet customer and legal requirements.
  • Develop and monitor safety guidelines for project/design teams.
  • Conduct safety hazard analysis using tools like PHI, FMECA, HAZOP, and FTA.
  • Maintain hazard databases (e.g., eCassandra) and generate safety documentation.
  • Provide technical expertise and safety advice to project/design teams.
  • Schedule work to meet target timescales and budget demands.
  • Liaise with project/design teams, customers, sub-contractors, and suppliers on safety matters.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience as a Safety Engineer, preferably in land vehicles or weapons systems.
  • Excellent understanding of safety requirements and familiarity with JSPs and Def Stans.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and creative skills.

Desirable Skills:

  • Engineering background in weapon systems or military design.
  • Experience in structural/stress analysis.
  • Understanding of EU standards and legislation.
  • Knowledge of product security and cyber aspects.
  • Awareness of product environmental standards.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • Strong commitment to responsibility.
  • Ability to travel if required.
