This is a key position within Barclays Bank UK PLC, reporting to the Legal Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading legal and strategic support for our Customer strategies, specifically processes and strategies for servicing customers with more complex needs.
Key Responsibilities- Lead Legal and Strategic Support: Provide expert legal advice and guidance to the Customer Team on a wide range of legal issues, including regulatory compliance, regulatory change management, consumer protection, and risk management.
- Manage Risk and Compliance: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with consumer banking activities, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Represent the Bank: Represent Barclays Bank UK PLC in legal proceedings related to consumer banking, such as litigation, arbitration, and regulatory inquiries and investigations.
- Develop and Implement Policies: Create and periodically review legal documents in accordance with contractual arrangements policy to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Stay Up-to-Date with Regulatory Changes: Conduct legal research and analysis to stay current on changes in laws and regulations that may impact the bank's consumer banking operations.
- Develop and Deliver Training: Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on legal and regulatory requirements related to consumer banking.
- Pro-actively Identify and Manage Risks: Pro-actively identify, communicate, and provide legal advice on applicable laws, rules, and regulations (LRRs), ensuring that LRRs are effectively allocated to and adequately reflected within relevant policies, standards, and controls.
- Advise Key Stakeholders: Advise key stakeholders, including functional leadership teams and senior management, on functional and cross-functional areas of impact and alignment.
- Manage and Mitigate Risks: Manage and mitigate risks through assessment, in support of the control and governance agenda.
- Demonstrate Leadership and Accountability: Demonstrate leadership and accountability for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work your team does.
- Demonstrate Comprehensive Understanding: Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the organization's functions to contribute to achieving the goals of the business.
- Collaborate with Other Areas: Collaborate with other areas of work, for business-aligned support areas, to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategies.
- Create Solutions: Create solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought, comparing and selecting complex alternatives, and in-depth analysis with interpretative thinking to define problems and develop innovative solutions.

This role requires a qualified solicitor, barrister, or legal executive with the ability to work independently and flexibly, across a range of products and services, to identify and manage risk, provide solutions, and plan for change brought by developing regulation. This role can be based in either our Manchester or Birmingham offices.
