Job Overview

Hampshire Hospitals NHS seeks a skilled midwife to join its "Blossom & Bloom" team, providing Continuity of Care for women planning a birth within the community setting. The ideal candidate will be passionate about community birth and able to provide true woman-centred, autonomous care that makes a significant difference in the lives of women and their families.

Main Duties

The midwife will follow a woman's personal journey from booking through to discharge from midwifery-led care, working alongside the multi-disciplinary team to provide individualised care for the women in their caseload. The role involves working in an on-call model to facilitate community birth over a 24-hour period. The midwife will be NIPE-trained or willing to train and have a shared interest in delivering informed and up-to-date antenatal education sessions with clients.

The successful candidate will be a passionate and woman-centred midwife with experience in case-loading midwifery or a desire for their career to include Continuity of Care for women and their families. They will be proactive, able to organise their own workload, flexible, and adaptable with excellent team-working skills. A valid driving licence and ability to drive using own transport are also essential.

Person Specification

  • Diploma/degree level Registered Midwife with evidence of further professional development.
  • Champion for midwifery-led care.

Experience & Knowledge

  • Experience of working in all clinical settings.
  • Ability to assess patient need and risk.
  • Able to make appropriate clinical decisions in view of recent research, informed choice, and individual circumstances.

Skills & Ability

  • Mentorship module or equivalent.
  • Demonstrates competent in dealing with obstetric emergencies in hospital and community settings.
  • Demonstrate competence in perineal suturing, cannulation, homebirth, epidural top-ups, caring for women birthing their babies in water and in the home/birth centre setting.

Other Specific Requirements

  • Organise and adjust own workload in relation to priorities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including on-call shifts, and participate in internal rotation to meet the needs of the service as required.
