Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced midwife to join our team, providing continuity of care for women planning a birth within the community setting. The successful candidate will be passionate about community birth and have a strong commitment to providing woman-centred, autonomous care.

Main Duties of the Job

The midwife will be responsible for providing a service that covers a large geographical area, including Basingstoke, Andover, Winchester, and Eastleigh, and surrounding areas. This will involve working alongside a multi-disciplinary team to provide individualised care for women in their case load.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing continuity of care for women planning a birth within the community setting
  • Working alongside a multi-disciplinary team to provide individualised care for women in their case load
  • Participating in on-call shifts to facilitate community birth over a 24-hour period
  • Providing antenatal education sessions with clients

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have a diploma/degree level registered midwife qualification, with evidence of further professional development. They will also be a champion for midwifery-led care and have experience of working in all clinical settings.

Desirable Criteria

  • NIPE trained
  • Attended cultural awareness course

Skills and Ability

  • Mentorship module or equivalent
  • Demonstrates competent in dealing with obstetric emergencies in hospital and community setting
  • Demonstrate competence in perineal suturing, cannulation, homebirth, epidural top ups, caring for women birthing their babies in water and in the home/birth centre setting
