Private Markets Investment Specialist

At USS Investment Management Limited, we are seeking a highly experienced Investment Director - PE Funds & Co-Investment to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the underwriting, monitoring, and management of indirect Private Equity investments (funds and co-investments) as well as coordinate and oversee the approach to indirect investments across Private Markets Group.
This role will provide you with the autonomy and influence to drive meaningful results from day one. As a key member of the team, you will work closely with experts to deliver high-quality work under tight timelines.
About the Role
- Lead PE co-investment and PE fund underwritings directly and have direct responsibility for several key GP/sponsor relationships.
- Participate in portfolio management by recommending solutions and suggesting changes to the portfolio construction through analysis and research support.
- Represent USS on limited partner advisory boards as well as within industry, including attendance and presentation at conferences, promoting the investment strategy and team of the PMG.
- Proactively participate in operational aspects of the PMG, suggesting efficiencies or changes in process, procedures, or structure where necessary.
- Assist the Head of PE in managing the mandate's operations, including scheduling PE ACs and team meetings, communicating outcomes across PMG.
- Assist the PE team with elaborating fund monitoring reports and specifically Funds PRC material.
- Provide line management to individual Analysts, mentoring, and supporting all Associates and Analysts.
About You
- Extensive experience of private equity funds as a principal, investing in funds & co-investments or secondary investing.
- Strong knowledge of and relationships in the private equity community.
- A thorough understanding of partnership agreements.
- Excellent financial modelling skills, company valuation techniques, and portfolio construction.
- A degree in finance-related subjects from top-tier universities or postgraduate qualifications like CFA or MBA.
- Capable of bottom-up investment analytics and top-down strategic thinking.
- Ability to manage teams, deliver quality work under constraints, prioritize tasks, organize processes, and handle multiple workstreams.
- Capacity to influence and negotiate investment objectives.
Compensation Package
As an attractive compensation package, this position comes with a salary range of £90,000 to £120,000 per annum, depending on your level of experience, plus additional benefits such as generous annual leave, access to a high-quality pension scheme provided by Universities Superannuation Scheme, supportive people policies, health and wellbeing services, learning and development opportunities, employee volunteer days, and more.
