Academics Ltd is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Therapeutic Support Specialist

This role is ideal for individuals with career aspirations in behavioural neuroscience, clinical, counselling, developmental, educational, neuropsychology, physiological, school and social psychology roles.

Do you want to gain experience supporting children with SEN, especially mental health issues?

We are looking for a motivated Therapeutic Support Specialist to support children with moderate learning difficulties and additional mental health needs at our SEMH specialist school based in Hailsham for children aged 4-16.

You will be helping children who have come from trauma/neglected backgrounds, challenging behaviour, ADHD or Autism and developed mental health issues due to their needs and require additional support with improving social, emotional and mental well-being.

Responsibilities of a Therapeutic Support Specialist:

  • Assist the class teacher in providing the learning experience of students.
  • Ability to perform conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques.
  • Behaviour and pastoral support.
  • Take an active role in forward planning with therapists.
  • Practical approach to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Willing to work 1:1 and in small groups with students.
  • Ensure safeguarding of students, in line with procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings and complete appropriate CPD.

Requirements of a Therapeutic Support Specialist:

  • A high level of patience and understanding.
  • An understanding of challenging behaviour.
  • Adaptability in any given situation.
  • To develop trusting and positive relationships with students.
  • A degree in psychology is desirable but not necessary.
