Senior Biomedical Specialist

At King's College Hospital NHS Trust, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist to join our Stem Cell Laboratory team in an exciting opportunity to maintain standards and staff competency during a challenging transition period.
The successful candidate will play a key role in providing a comprehensive Bone Marrow transplant service, lead on facilitating clinical trials, and provide training and leadership to junior team members. The post holder will work in a clean-room environment to process bone marrow, stem cells, and cord blood for patient transplant.
- Main Duties:
- Determine the clinical significance of complex laboratory results and take appropriate action, utilising high-level interpretative skills.
- Verify unexpected results and ensure correct pre-analytical procedures were performed.
- Bring urgent, markedly abnormal or unexpected results to the attention of the requesting clinician.
- Initiate and contribute to audit and research and development activities.
- Maintain emergency back-up systems for ultra-low temperature storage facility.
- Delegate work and supervise subordinate staff.
- Person Specification:
- BSc Biomedical Sciences or equivalent.
- State Registration (HCPC).
- MSc Biomedical Science (or equivalent).
- Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
- Key Requirements:
- Quality Control and Assurance management.
- Risk management theory and practice.
- Knowledge of HR legislation and policies.
- Teaching and training skills.
- Significant experience of management of staff and Stem Cell Lab work.
- Competent in the interpretation and technical validation of results.
- Experience in Cell Culture, flow cytometry, and cryopreservation.
- Experience of Quality Management Systems.
- Management of the provision, storage, and distribution of CAR-T and other AT(I)MP therapies.
- Communication Skills:
- Ability to communicate complex information effectively.
- Ability to motivate individuals.
- Ability to disseminate scientific knowledge.
- Able to produce concise and accurate daily reports.
- Organisational Skills:
- Ability to plan, organise, and manage own and others work and time.
- Ability to adapt and organise and prioritise the unpredictable nature of workload efficiently.
- Ability to work under pressure and multitask without compromising standards.
