About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Orthopaedic Practitioner to join our team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW). As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing expert specialist technical support and advice on casting and bracing services for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply, adjust, and remove all types of casts as prescribed by clinicians.
  • Participate in the assessment, planning, and evaluation of care for patients requiring casting or splinting, referring to clinicians as required.
  • Assess different initial conditions and provide advice to clinicians on appropriate courses of action and materials to be used.
  • Obtain informed consent from patients when carrying out programs of care.
  • Promptly alert the nurse in charge of any issues or risks within the clinical setting.
  • Provide expert specialist technical support and advice on casting services for the Trust, covering Fracture and elective clinics, Theatre, Wards, and Emergency Departments across adult and children services.
  • Use evidence-based practice to assess, develop, and implement care.
  • Provide advice on the application of casts for specialist conditions, including total contact casting and wound care for diabetic patients, and hip spicas for pediatric patients.
  • Instruct clinical staff on the use and application of splints and braces and maintain competency records.
Requirements
  • Qualified Practitioner with British Orthopaedic Association registration.
  • Experience of trauma and orthopaedic casting, functional bracing, and musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology.
  • Broad knowledge and experience of clinical practice within a hospital environment and specialist clinical and technical knowledge in the application and removal of all types of casting and bracing.
  • Significant and relevant experience post-qualification.
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team covering various departments within adult and children services.
  • Experience of teaching.
