Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in the plaster room at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW), covering maternity leave on a fixed-term basis. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Orthopaedic Practitioner to join our team, working full-time hours with the possibility of part-time hours considered.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for working with patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings across Adult and Children's services at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and Bristol Children's Hospital. This role requires excellent communication skills, with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Applying, adjusting, and removing casts as prescribed by clinicians.
  • Participating in the assessment, planning, and evaluation of care for patients requiring casting or splinting.
  • Providing expert technical support and advice on casting and bracing techniques.
  • Assessing and managing wound care in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
  • Teaching and supervising clinical staff on the use and application of splints and braces.

Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Qualified Practitioner British Orthopaedic Association Registration with the BOA.
  • Extensive experience of Trauma and Orthopaedic casting, functional bracing, and musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology.
  • Broad knowledge and experience of clinical practice within a hospital environment and specialist clinical and technical knowledge in the application and removal of all types of casting and bracing.
  • Significant and relevant experience post qualification.
  • Experience of working as a part of a multidisciplinary team covering various departments within adult and children services.
  • Experience of teaching and supervising clinical staff.
