Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join our team at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, University of Cambridge. This is a 3-year fixed-term position, funded by a donation from INIGO insurance, starting in January/February 2025.

About the Role

The successful candidate will work on a project to better understand the influence of the Quasi-Biennial Oscillation (QBO) on tropical convection and its impact on North Atlantic cyclone activity. The role will involve developing and driving research objectives, writing up work for presentation and publication, collaborating with academic and industrial partners, and assisting in the supervision of student research projects.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in atmospheric dynamics, a PhD in applied mathematics or a relevant area, and experience with theoretical frameworks, numerical models, and specialist knowledge of the dynamical processes within the tropics and of tropical convection.
