Job Title: Qualified Social Worker for Independent Review Officer CP

The Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) plays a critical role in ensuring the safeguarding of children in care and those at risk of significant harm. Operating within a statutory framework, the IRO ensures that each child's care plan is effective, focused on the child's best interests, and fully implemented. The IRO works closely with social workers, families, and various agencies to oversee and review care plans, guaranteeing they are purposeful, comply with statutory requirements, and ultimately safeguard the child.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Care Act assessments to identify the child's needs and develop a comprehensive care plan.
  • Report writing to provide a clear and concise account of the child's situation and care plan.
  • Chairing Looked After Children (LAC) reviews to ensure care plans are designed to meet the child's current and future needs.
  • Developing an informed understanding of mental health factors impacting child development.
  • Working on cases with increased complexity, requiring a high level of expertise and judgment.
  • Determining an appropriate level of intervention and service provision to meet the child's needs.
Requirements:
  • Previous management experience working within child safeguarding services, with a strong understanding of the statutory framework.
  • Skills of multi-agency working, developing child-focused care plans, and understanding of dispute resolution and escalation processes.
