Lead Nurse

About the Role
NHS Blood and Transplant is seeking an experienced and skilled Lead Nurse to join our team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for leading a team of Healthcare Assistants and Donor Care Supervisors, ensuring they are motivated, well-trained, and capable of delivering exceptional care to our donors.
Key Responsibilities
- Take clinical responsibility for ensuring the safe assessment and blood donation of our donors.
- Be accountable for the safe running of a blood donation session.
- Take responsibility for ensuring an excellent donor experience.
- Maintain the competency and skills of your team and yourself.
- Be able to adapt communication styles for difficult conversations.
- Maintain your professional development to help us deliver improvements to our practice.
Working Hours
The normal hours for this role are 2 days per week or 4 days per fortnight. Early shifts start at 8:00 and finish 17:30. Late shifts start at 10:30 and finish 21:00, which will be 9-hour days. Weekend and bank holiday working will be required.
About You
We are looking for an experienced and skilled nurse who has:
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and understands the principles of best practice to deliver high-quality care.
- Experience of supporting the professional development of others.
- An understanding of clinical audit and research.
- Experience of supporting improvements and change in practice.
- An awareness of patient safety initiatives and risk management.
- Experience of working with Information Technology such as hand-held devices and Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Qualifications and Training
- Registered Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration (which must be maintained) as Registered Nurse – Adult.
- Hold a full and valid UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.
