About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Fuel Cell and Thermal Systems Engineer to join our team at GKN Aerospace. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining capability in fuel cell systems and optimized integrated thermal systems.

Job Overview

The successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers in the development of holistic fuel cell and thermal systems, with a focus on large hydrogen electric propulsion systems and integration with hydrogen fuel systems. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that system requirements are captured, managed, and developed into design solutions and validated products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop fuel cell systems and thermal management systems with a focus on hydrogen power and propulsion
  • Ensure system requirements are captured, managed, and developed into design solutions and validated products
  • Define Fuel Cell Stack Module requirements from the perspective of fuel cell system level with internal and external suppliers
  • Develop standards for fuel cell and thermal systems development and verification used within the CTO Office
  • Manage the fuel cell and thermal systems teams working closely with other disciplines, including systems engineering
  • Responsible for recruitment, specification of roles, and development of team members
  • Manage external project organizations, including programme partners, Suppliers, and University Partners as appropriate
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • An Engineering Degree
  • Experience as a lead fuel cell and/or thermal systems engineer
  • Approval Authority for the design and development of systems or thermal systems
  • Experience in the design, development, and integration of heat exchangers
  • Excellent understanding of aircraft thermal systems architectural development
