About the Role
GKN Aerospace is seeking a highly skilled Technical Authority to lead the development of fuel cell and thermal systems for our hydrogen electric propulsion system. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for defining the architecture and integration of these systems, from requirements elucidation to implementation and in-service operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop fuel cell systems and thermal management systems with a focus on hydrogen power and propulsion
- Ensure system requirements are captured, managed, and developed into design solutions and validated products
- Define fuel cell stack module requirements from a fuel cell system level with internal and external suppliers
- Develop standards for fuel cell and thermal systems development and verification used within the CTO Office
- Manage the fuel cell and thermal systems teams, working closely with other disciplines, including systems engineering
- Responsible for recruitment, specification of roles, and development of team members
- Manage external project organizations, including programme partners, suppliers, and university partners
- Manage and maintain fuel cell and thermal system work package budgets, reporting, and schedule
- Ensure requirements for design and development of rig test for ground demonstrator platforms, including test planning and execution
- Ensure development and insertion of Technology Development Plans, cost models, and Technology Business Cases for system technologies
- Work alongside legal and procurement organizations to oversee related subcontracts
- Ensure verification planning and test requirements capture system requirements and are adequately validated
- Develop and maintain requirements and specifications, both internally and as part of international standard working groups
- Provide technical support to regulatory discussions (CAA/FAA/EASA)
- Support customer and supplier engagements, including responding to RFIs
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have a strong background in engineering, with experience in lead fuel cell and/or thermal systems engineering. You will also have experience in the integration of fuel cell/thermal systems, approval authority for design and development of systems or thermal systems, and experience in the design, development, and integration of heat exchangers.
