Medical Device Engineering Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Device Engineering Specialist to join our Clinical Engineering team at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective management of medical devices across the organization.
Job OverviewThe Medical Equipment Management Service (MEMS) is responsible for the planning, replacement, and maintenance of medical equipment. As a Medical Device Engineering Specialist, you will work closely with our Clinical Engineering team to ensure the safe and effective use of medical devices. Your primary focus will be on coordinating the planned replacement of medical equipment, working with Finance and Procurement colleagues to feed into fiscal planning and contribute to procurement strategies.
Main Responsibilities- Plan and execute cost-effective procurement and support of medical devices
- Contribute to plans for the replacement of existing medical equipment and support the business case process for the acquisition of new/additional equipment
- Develop medical device requirement specifications and lead technical evaluations
- Manage equipment deployment into clinical service, including the planning of ongoing maintenance provision
- Support the Trust response to medical equipment related safety alerts
- 1st or 2nd class degree in a relevant subject
- Masters degree in Medical Engineering [or equivalent]
- Registration as a Clinical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (or registration achievable within 12 months)
- Post-graduate qualification related to medical device management
- Knowledge of medical technology and experience of medical device management in a healthcare setting
- Working knowledge of legislation and guidance relevant to the management of medical devices
- Experience of investigating patient safety incidents and interpreting patient safety information
- Experience of developing medical device requirement specifications and leading technical evaluations
- Able to prioritize and manage own work
- Able to exercise own initiative when dealing with common issues within own specialist area of competence
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office e.g. Word/Excel, Outlook
- Able to develop and manage project plans, maintaining auditable records
