About Us
Niijkiwendidaa Anishnaabekwewag Services Circle (NASC) is a registered charitable organization dedicated to the development and delivery of healing services for Anishnaabekwewag (Indigenous women) and their families who have experienced violence or are at risk of experiencing violence.
Therapeutic healing work is conducted using Anishnaabe practices, blended with community-centred and client-centred methods of healing.
The position is located at the main office in Peterborough.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the NASC team with purpose and passion, supporting and fostering positive relationships amongst the team, amongst the Council of Directors, the community, and other partners.
- Build and nurture strong and impactful relationships with community partners that advances our mandate and creates lasting community change.
- Create and foster a values-based team, ensuring a supportive and safe working climate for all team members, including volunteers, that is in accordance with law, regulations, and policies.
- Oversee a performance management system that assigns and coordinates work, ensures the successful achievement of planned results, and monitors team performance which includes annual performance reviews for all team members.
- Manage the human resource needs of the organization, including recruitment, staff professional development and team building.
- Provide support to the Council of Directors including preparation of meeting materials, an Executive Director's report, financial reports and budgets, and other communications as required.
- Support the Board of Directors to achieve good governance, in compliance with NASC bylaws and relevant legislation.
- Work collectively with the Council of Directors to provide knowledge and expertise in the development of organizational capacity, strategic directions, and policies.
- Assist the Council in defining the direction of NASC as it relates to the needs of Indigenous women and their families.
- Directly manage all financial matters and activities related to the annual and day-to-day operations in accordance with finance policies and procedures.
- Meet all contractual funding requirements and ensure timely reporting occurs, including budgets, submissions, proposals, data collection, annual reports (CRA), etc.
- Create opportunities for and facilitate community outreach and promotion of the organization.
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree in business administration, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a senior management role.
- Must be an active and engaged member of the Indigenous community, having an in-depth understanding of Indigenous culture and Indigenous ways of being.
- Must have in-depth knowledge of Indigenous community needs, challenges, solutions, trends, and gaps.
- Experience and understanding of woman abuse, children who witness violence and sexual assault survivors.
- Multiple years experience with organization and senior level management, preferably with a community-based, Indigenous non-profit.
- Experience in initiating, strategically planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and services.
- Strong understanding of finance management, specifically operation and program budgets, ability to forecast, and to develop financial budgets for funding applications.
- Ability to speak an Indigenous language is considered an asset.
- Strong Leadership, positively influencing others to meet and exceed goals that are in the best interests of the organization and the community.
- Willingness to be flexible, versatile, and tolerant in a changing work environment, including working flexible hours and some weekends when required.
- Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks at once: set priorities, develop a personal schedule, record goals, and track progress.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including an ability to work with, supervise, motivate, and interact with team members and community agencies/organizations.
