About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Specialist Advisor to join our team at Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified and experienced professional to make a significant impact in primary care mental health services.

Job Description

The successful candidate will work closely with GPs and other healthcare professionals to provide specialist advice and support to patients with mental health concerns. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing lead support in triaging mental health concerns raised by on-the-day patient requests, offering specialist advice and guidance within GP surgeries.
  • Reviewing patients presenting with mental health issues, considering a range of support and treatment interventions, and providing highly specialized advice and signposting when appropriate, while liaising with GPs and MH teams.
  • Offering brief interventions as needed, such as problem-solving, decision-making, building resilience, and risk de-escalation.
  • Working as a member of the primary Care MDT and taking responsibility for the development and implementation of specialist mental health training to the PCN.
  • Providing navigation support to help GPs make appropriate referrals to relevant community and secondary care services, bridging the gap between primary care services and secondary care.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong understanding of primary care health provision and experience in mental health services for adults and older adults with severe/significant mental illness.
  • Experience of providing a range of evidence-based interventions to individuals with various mental health problems and serious mental illness.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with GPs, other healthcare professionals, and patients.
