About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Clinical Psychologist to join our team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. As a key member of our Macmillan service, you will play a vital role in developing and delivering high-quality psychological care to patients living with cancer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement highly specialized clinical health psychology pathways for patients with cancer, in line with NICE guidelines and Core Standards.
  • Provide training and support to multidisciplinary team (MDT) colleagues in delivering psychologically informed care and facilitating Level 2 psychological skills.
  • Contribute to the implementation, development, and evaluation of the service, working closely with the consultant clinical psychologist, MDT colleagues, and key stakeholders.
  • Offer supervision in psychological skills to other less experienced psychological practitioners and to healthcare staff working in the service.
  • Contribute to and facilitate a varied training program for healthcare professionals, including the development of care pathways and the promotion of patient needs, clinical symptoms, and approaches to care within the MDT.
  • Develop and engage in audit and research within the pathway to further the development of the pathway.
Requirements
  • Registered with the regulatory body (e.g., BABPC or HCPC).
  • Clinical or Counselling Psychologist HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist or Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with completed appropriate training in CBT therapy.
  • Further training or experience in the specialist field.
  • Prepared to undertake a substantial post-qualification training in one or more additional specialized areas of psychological practice.
Desirable Criteria
  • Training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training, and/or other fields of applied psychological interventions.
  • Post-qualification training in evidence-based therapies (e.g., EMDR, CFT, ACT).
  • Core Profession (e.g., Mental Health Nurse, Practitioner Psychologist, or Mental Health Social Worker) leadership training or qualification.
Experience
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a range of care settings (e.g., outpatient, community, primary care, and inpatient settings).
  • Experience of working with patients with a wide range of psychological problems (e.g., community mental health, long-term health conditions).
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, typically across the whole life course, presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
