Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Dental Officer to join our team at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust. As a Senior Dental Officer, you will be responsible for leading our dental services and ensuring that our patients receive the highest quality care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage our dental services, ensuring that they are delivered to the highest standards.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve patient outcomes and experience.
  • Work closely with our clinical teams to ensure that our services are aligned with our organisational goals.
  • Manage and develop our dental staff, providing guidance and support to ensure that they have the skills and knowledge needed to deliver high-quality care.
  • Ensure that our services are compliant with all relevant regulations and standards.

Requirements:

  • Hold a BDS or equivalent qualification.
  • Be registered with the General Dental Council.
  • Have a current NHS Performer List number.
  • Not be subject to any open or ongoing Performer Investigation.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Special Care Dentistry.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Paediatric Dentistry.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Sedation.
  • Five years post-graduate clinical activity.
  • Experience of and an understanding of the challenges presented by special care patients.
  • Experience of clinical audit.
  • Experience dealing with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Experience of working in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of basic physiology and medical conditions that may cause complications in the delivery of dentistry.
  • Current commissioning guidelines in sedation, special care and paediatric dentistry.
  • Basic Life Support and the skills to lead a medical emergency.
  • Structure of local NHS services.
  • Legislative framework governing the delivery of oral health care in England.
  • Sound knowledge of clinical and restorative dentistry.

Personal Qualities:

  • Understanding and empathy towards vulnerable groups.
  • High standard of professional ethics and integrity.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Current driving licence.
  • Compliance with NHS policy on smoking.
  • Able to travel between sites in Cumbria.
